Well my graphics card and monitor are getting long in the tooth so its time for a replacement.

Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit SP1
CPU
AMD Phenom X4 9750 44 °C
Agena 65nm Technology
RAM
4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 399MHz (5-5-5-18)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK Computer INC. M4A785-M (AM2) 47 °C
Graphics
HF229 (1680x1050@59Hz)
1024MB ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series (XFX Pine Group)

Which graphics card replacement would be the best fit for me as there are so many out there?

Solution
Don't see any problems with the powersupply, plenty enough for the system and decent efficiency as well.
I'm not really sure about a CPU upgrade, the MB supports later AM3 Phenoms but the DDR2 memory will hold an upgraded CPU back but I simply do not know by how much, it would probably be best for you to post in the CPU/Homebuilt Forums (link the CPU support page in your post) and gauge opinion.
My own feeling is that it will be better to upgrade the existing graphics card, keep the current system as is and start planning for a new build sometime late next year.
The card choices are: HD7790/GTX650, good match for your current system, well under budget and far, far faster than the existing card.
I would have suggested the more powerful...
What power supply is installed-make and exact model, please.
What is your budget?
It's an older setup but still capable, just bear in mind, this is likely to be the last viable single component upgrade (I assume for gaming) of the current system, the CPU support list:
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M4A785M/#support_Support_CPU_Phenom IIX4 965 (HDZ965FBK4DGM),3.4GHz,125W,rev.C3,SocketAM3,Quad-Core
shows the motherboard can support much later AM3 CPUs' but the DDR2 memory will hold them back, making the next upgrade essentially a new build, but it is not this day!

Its this power supply.

Budget probably $200.

Thing is I'm not sure I would even be able to support a new GPU with this POS stuff I have.

So I can upgrade the CPU or the GPU as my last upgrade?

I would have suggested the more powerful HD7870 which is available for just under $200 (US) and swapping it into a new build next year but AMD are releasing a new generation of cards in October-no point in putting 'obsolete' 'old' hardware into a shiny new build is there ;)?
