Extremely slow wifi after hardware change.

Hi all,

I've had this pci-e wifi card for a while (safecom swlpr-5400), and it was working ok. I'm dual booting Win 7 64bit with elementary OS, and it was functioning ok in both.

However, yesterday I installed a Q6600 cpu in my Dell Optiplex 745 and since then, my wifi in windows has been extremely slow: like 2kbs kind of slow. I've tried to update drivers but there doesn't seem to be any.

I wondered whether maybe the extra power consumption of the q6600 might be affecting performance of the wifi card.

However, when I boot in to linux, my speeds are just fine.

Any idea what might be causing this?

P.S. I also have a HD 4550 gpu installed.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi, just tried that, but it hasn't changed anything :(

It's weird, I tried it in IE and things seemed a little better: I managed to load up a speedtest site which said it was 4Mbs, but then pages wouldn't load. Then I managed to watch a youtube video at 720p, though it took ages to 'initialize'. Then a few seconds later I couldn't load any pages again. Weird.

I've just gone into linux, and the internet is usable, though it does seem to be a fair bit slower than I'd expect: things seem to take a while to send page requests etc.

I'm also experiencing some performance issues with video playback, slightly jerky, which is odd with a quad core cpu, 4GB RAM, and a descrete gpu.... but that's another issue.

Thanks.

hmm, anything else abnormal? such as CPU idle and load temps etc

also are you running everything from the CPU's integrated GPU, or a discrete GPU? it seems like you have a lot of graphics related internet issues...
