Hello,

I am a first time computer builder looking to make my first gaming pc. I think I have the components all picked out, but I am unsure as to what PSU to buy. Right now I have a 600W PSU picked out, which I believe should support the overclocking ability of the CPU

Here are my components:
Motherboard – ASUS M5A97 CPU – AMD FX6300
RAM – Patriot Xtreme 8GB Videocard – AMD Radeon 7870 Hard Drive – Western Digital Blue 500GB 7200
Optical Drive – Optional LG 24X DVD burner
Case – Cooler Master Storm Enforcer
Power Supply – Rosewill Stallion Series 600W
Display – ASUS VS Series 23 inch full HD Display
Keyboard – IROCKS KR-6820E
Windows 7 home premium

I really don't want to damage anything, and I would really appreciate any help anyone could give!! Thanks

For what you have listed, you could probably get away with a mild overclock. However, if you are going to be oc'ing, I stongly suggest you get an aftermarket HSF for the cpu. Additionally, if you plan on intensive oc'ing, you might want to consider getting a 700-750 watt PSU (from a quality manufacturer such as Antec, Seasonic, XFX, Corsair, etc.)

Sorry about the typing error. I don't plan on going crazy with the overclocking, but I just want the ability to do so if I needed to.

I'll change the PSU then. The seasonic 550W that was listed isn't powerful enough to decently overclock the CPU then?
