I was wondering if I could take my windows 8 built in setup program and copy/paste the application onto a disk, put in in the windows 98/95 pc and install it using the application from there. Is it possible to do this? I hate windows 98 and this pc was made probaly around the 2000s so I want to make it better. :pt1cable:

Check the tech specs of your target machine (CPU, ram, etc) versus the systems requirements of Windows 8. It's highly unlikely any machine with 98/95 originally installed will be capable of running Win 8.

If the target machine has enough CPU/ram, XP will work. But remember support ends on XP in April 2014.

I'd suggest a Linux distro for the old Win 98 box. Puppy Linux runs on cpu's down to P-III's and 256 meg...
not sure if your idea of copying the program would work but if you burn an iso of the install disk (should be able to get the iso from microsoft) you can use that to install. i'm not so sure how well win8 will run on such an old system (or if it will) depending on the hardware and specs used. you also would need another product key.

if anything i would put windows xp on the old machine. you should be able to get a copy for relatively cheap/free or you might know someone with a copy they dont use anymore. xp is very forgiving of hardware specs and should work fine.

U could try to get a Windows 2000 or Windows XP installation disk from some website like eBay or some second-hand selling sites. But exactly if u wanna use these OS u need to have at least 128M RAM for 2000 or 256M RAM for XP otherwise the speed will be verrrrrry slow. Plus 500mhz CPU for 2000 or 800mhz CPU for XP is also a kind of asset. I bet ur HDD has at least 5-8GB (Don't tell me that it's only 1 or 2 gigs)

Best of luck.
