Having issues with Radeon HD7950 running 13.9 Catalyst freezing in game

Hey, brand new to Toms but use it often and read it frequently. As of late, just yesterday I got my Sapphire Radeon HD7950 card and installed it and ran the drivers it came with. It wasn't amazing playing Far Cry 3 and could barely pull ahead of my MSI OC Radeon HD7790. So I figured a driver update would help and maybe some other tweaks via Far Cry PostFX disabling. Last night I downloaded and installed AMD Catalyst 13.9 which just released yesterday. I wanted to see what the differences were after the update and within 5 seconds of getting started in the game itself, it just froze up. So, I restarted and again, it froze, almost immediately getting into the game. So I tried DMC, I played it for about 4 minutes before it also froze on me, getting black screened. Before I could use task manager to close out the game and the final time playing anything I had zero control and had to hard restart. I know AMD is known for its driver issues and was wanting to know if I needed to completely rid my system of the original drivers before installing 13.9. Before the driver update the games played just fine with just better FPS and ran like junk with AA and V-Sync, which is why I wanted the newer drivers. Any push in the right direction or similar issues with 13.9 would be great!

13.9 should be working at least some. It shouldn't just corrupt everything I try to do. This why I'm wondering if I do need to uninstall prior drivers first.

To update the situation. I had downloaded Sapphires Trixx OC tool and had Graphics Overdrive enabled in Catalyst. Somewhere I was reading to not have Catalyst Overdrive on while I was also using Trixx to OC or adjust anything. So after disabling Catalyst Overdrive I noticed some improvements. I had used AMD's own cleanup tool to rid my system of almost all AMD Drivers, in the process actually removing all chipset drivers. Had to get the latest chipset drivers from ASUS, then Catalyst 13.9 driver for my HD7950. After all this in Far Cry 3 after setting PostFX to false and custom setting the Video Quality of PostFX to "Low", I could finally have some AA, Buffering, and V-sync going on High-Ultra settings getting 50-65 FPS. Good I suppose, maybe I figured the 7950 could be doing more. Plays all of my other games on Ultra no issues. Freezing seems to have stopped although I did have one instance online having a few open windows of Flash going and my whole computer froze, but, no more in game freezing as of late. I will continue to update if I have more information. I hope this helps someone in my same position.

1. Disable Catalyst GPU Overdrive if using Vendor specific OC tools
2. Make sure all AMD drivers are uninstalled completely, try not to use Driver Sweeper
3. Update to the latest driver software for anything on a clean slate
4. ?
5. Profit
