ive almost got all of my new parts for my upgrade (cpu, mobo and cooler), and i know that i am going to have to reinstall the OS. Are the steps any different from a normal OS re-installation? or any things i need to look out for?

Also im reinstalling the OS on the same drive and ive got the windows product key sticker stuck on my machine(serial code) is this helping me anyway?

Considering you have a product sticker on the machine i'd assume it's an OEM system bought from one of the large computer companies. These machines use OEM software which means the OS is tied to the motherboard, so if you swap motherboards you'll need to call Microsoft.(tell them your board died and they'll probably give you a new key). This is if you're using the disc that came with your machine (if it came with one).

If it's a new install disc or not an OEM machine, then you won't have to worry about it or do anything special, just install the hardware and clean install.

Tell them you're having issues with your motherboard or that it's dead, they'll usually give you a new key. If you don't have a disc, you can go online and download Windows legally onto a disc and use the key they gave you.

If you don't want to go through that you can always buy a retail copy of Windows which would work fine with the new hardware since you are swapping boards.
