Hi there guys. Today I've been totally disappointed with Seasonic. It was the first time i choose a seasonic psu and i think it will be the last. OK here is my story...

I have received my new Haswell build a week or so ago which has the following parts:

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD3H
CPU: INTEL CORE I5-4670K 3.40GHZ LGA1150
RAM: G.SKILL F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR 8GB
VGA: ATI 4600HD ( waiting for my gtx 760 to arrive)
PSU: SEASONIC SSR-650RM G-650 series
HDD: WD 500GB 7200rpm
OS: Win 7 SP1 x64

I assembled the parts and everything was running fine till earlier this day!

The first thing i configured after manually downloading and installing all the necessary drivers was that the PC will hibernate after 20 minutes because i sometimes leave the PC alone and forget to come back and close it...

Anyways after every hibernate (which i don't know if the PC was properly hibernating until today, i will explain later) when i turned it on i was getting a hibernate error message which could not restore from hibernate and had to fresh start.

Well i didn't bother and leave it as it is but today i started the PC and as all previous days i got the same error and i decided to fix it. I read from an article that you need to install "IntelĀ® Rapid Start Technology" which was something i forgot to install and i said OK i will do it right way now.

I downloaded gigabyte's App Center checked for updates and listed a few drivers including the Intel's rapid start. Also it installed the @Bios application and after all it asked me for a restart and i did it. Everything was fine the PC started OK. At that point i said why not update and the Bios since it was version "f3" build at april and the newest was version "f7" build at august.

I run the Bios App. It recognizes my mobo correctly it gives me only one bios option to update which was the same with the site's i manually checked. After about 5 minutes of erasing and writing it says update completed you need to restart. And here we start.

I Restart and the PC was constantly rebooting without giving me an output on my monitor. After about 6-7 reboot beeps i pressed the power button to shut it down. I let it for 30sec and press the power button and everything starts OK. I reboot from the OS press fast "DEL" enter the bios and check the version and it was updated to "f7" also i re-set my RAM to XMP Profile 1 in order to work at 1866 and at proper latency. Save and Exit and everything was working like a charm. I checked some Settings with CPUID and everything was looking good as it was with the old bios.

Now here comes my problem.

I started to install Left 4 Dead 2 and when the installation was at about 80% i leave it and go down to eat. After about 10 minutes NOT more i come upstairs and i see my PC turned off and i thought it was in hibernate but i said to my self i set it to hibernate after 20 minutes and i was down for less than 10 minutes. I press the Power button immediately and nothing happens. I tried 3-4 times nothing... I turn off the seasonic psu from the I/O switch i see the orange led from the power button inside the case on the motherboard turning off. After about 30 sec i turn it on again and press the power on and nothing happens.. (i was oh shit what the f**k happened). I unplug the psu cable leave it for one minute and re-plug it in. I press the power button and it STARTS.

Now i watch my monitor and when it goes to Windows loading screen it turns off.

At that point i said some drivers screw up my OS. ok the worst case scenario will be a format , but the problem was worst than that. I tried to power up again but nothing tried the cables, read the psu manual, did a psu reset, i cleared the CMOS with the button on the mobo and nothing... I see the Orange button inside the case on the mobo was on so i said ok the psu gives powet to the mobo, so i opened the case tried to start from there but again nothing...after every possible method i tried it didn't powered up so i got the zalman psu from my brother's pc plug it onto my mobo to see whats going on and it started BUT i got error message " The Main Bios is corrupt. The System will restore from the backup bios" it did the restore and booted ok...

I tried my PSU to 2 different computers and it didn't powered any of them.

Can anyone explain what did just happened? Is it possible that the bios was corrupt destroyed the psu , was it faulty from the first day or the C6/C7 idle states damaged the PSU and there was never a hibernate at all? I'm new with Haswell and never experienced such a weird problem.

I also read this comment on a site "Haswell is such a huge disappointment. It has been proven to be slower and consume more power than even the pathetic Ivy Bridge, USB 3 needs to be completely disabled so that your USB 3 devices aren't destroyed, and now Haswell's defects are causing PSUs to overload and catch fire. Absolutely nothing works with this chip, but Intel is still going to force us to buy them anyway. "

I Don't know that happened today but i'm still upset and without a PSU. Also i want to mention there was no power failure because my brother was at the next room playing battlefield 3..

1. Please use paragraphs next time because that was extremely difficult to read with so many run on sentences.

2. Haswell is a little bit faster than Ivy-Bridge while consuming a lot less power. Haswell simply just runs very hot and does not overclock high.

3. Never seen any USB 3 issue.

4. Personally I cannot really say for sure what the issue is. You did a ton of stuff, one thing lead to another type of situation, I would say get a new power supply and completely set everything back up again, resetting everything.

Looking at Newegg.com's Customer Feedback for that PSU you will see that it's not a perfect product.

Sometimes a customer will receive a D.O.A. PSU or the PSU will fail after few days or weeks of use.

You are right mate. i just checked and 1 out of 3 products are dead on arrival or after a week or so... to lame for a company with so many positive reviews.

Anyways i already send it back and they will replace it with the same one.. I won't use it at all and i'm going to sell it.

Do you have any recommendation on a good PSU around 700w. I was thinking for corsair but i see a lot of people complaining about being noisy!

Another thing that concerns me is that the bios was corrupt after i powered up my pc which lead me to this two threads:

I just hope that my mobo is not faulty too...

You may have gotten a bad unit, but Seasonic is actually one of the best power supply makers out there and an OEM to many other companies selling power supplies. Any company or product will have faulty units so don't judge seasonic on that single experience.

Two good products to go with are:

Seasonic X Series X650 Gold
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Corsair HX series
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Just get a new power supply and reset the UEFI BIOS, if you have similar issues again let us know.
