I am looking.. to get a current generation card. not 8/9k series AMD, not maxwell series nVidia, etcetera. I'm torn between 7870-7970 series cards from AMD, and the 760/770 4GB edition cards from nVidia... and I'm wanting to max BF3/4 Graphics settings. The most I can afford is about $400 USD.
Setup: 1080p monitor.
650w 80+ Gold PSU, seasonic brand.
Approx Purchase date: Soon.
Use: Gaming
Current GPU: MSI Cyclone GTX 460 1GB ED/OC
i5-3570K OC to 4.2GHz
I've already decided I want at LEAST 2GB of VRAM, Prefer 3 or 4. Can't afford the 780. Also would like a warranty SIMILAR TO or BETTER THAN that of EVGA. EVGA accepted. Prefer non-reference cooling/PCB setup. I like my GPU's the way anyone else would... reliable. Also would prefer to avoid Gigabyte(Gigglebit?) cards.

Prefer newegg as place of purchase, but WILL go elsewhere if necessary.

Solution
If you guys are interested, there are a ton of rumours on OCN (or overclock.net). Basically, yes, some re-badging might happen, but only something like the 7970 being re-badged as the 7870 grade card, meaning it will come tweaked and a lot cheaper. The top end cards still look very promising, Hawaii and Hawaii XT, and will hopefully compete well with the GTX 780, which I think is very possible. The latest naming scheme is R9 290 for the top card, going down, R9 for the grade, 2 for the generation, and 90, 80X, 80 etc. for the specific level of performance.

Nvidia is currently better value, they've usually been the slightly more expensive guys (because of more technologies) but at this moment in time, a 760/770 is fantastic value. A bit of overclocking as well make 'em fly.

The 7970 is only just slightly ahead of the 760 in most games, but with the 760 being cheaper, you get a hell of a lot more price per dollar.

I'm not sure on the pricing in USD, but I'd say a 770 would be the one to go for yourself, it'll handle BF3 ridiculously easily and BF4 will no doubt run awesome as well.

AMD's new graphics cards are unveiled in 5 days. Wait until then. 7870 is a lot weaker than the rest here, and the 7970 would be your best bet at that price range, with the 770 performing slightly better for a bit more. But wait a few days first.

*Also 7970 is miles ahead of the 760. The 7950 however is around the same performance of the 760, but cheaper. All good cards anyway.

its features

Advanced Thermal DesignThe Twin Froza IV thermal design delivers best-in-class cooling capability you can rely on in demanding use. Dual 10cm PWM fans with Propeller Blade technology generate more airflow than traditional fans. Airflow Control technology deflects more airflow to heatpipe directly and increases the area of heatsink.

• Military Class ComponentsMilitary Class 4 is the next step in high-quality components. The Hi-c Cap, new SFC, and Solid CAPs make sure that your graphics card runs more stable under extreme conditions. The core of Military Class 4 is based on the essentials which increase your stability in the toughest conditions.

• Gaming AppChoose from three modes to match your gaming scenario. Gaming Mode: Tune up core clock and fan speed to get good gaming experience. Eco Mode: Reduce core clock and fan speed to get comfortable environment and save power. Default Mode: Back to original settings.

• AfterburnerCo-developed by MSI and Rivatuner, Afterburner is the ultimate graphics card utility. This utility enables all MSI graphics cards users to boost performance, and to monitor all kinds of critical information, in real-time. The latest version also supports in-game video recording for easy sharing and wireless control by Android/iOS handheld devices.

• NVIDIA GPU Boost 2.0Ensures that the GPU runs at its peak and that the game is at its highest framerate possible. It offers new levels of customization, including GPU temperature target, overclocking, and unlocked voltage.

•NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical SyncNothing is more distracting than framerate stuttering and screen tearing. The first tends to occur when framerates are low, the second when framerates are high. Adaptive V-Sync is a smarter way to render frames. At high framerates, V-sync is enabled to eliminate tearing; at low frame rates, it's disabled to minimize stuttering. It gets rid of distractions so you can get on with gaming

So go Wiht a GTX 770 insted of a 7970
if yu want more then it Go with A 7990 is is fastest gaming gpu in planet earth :)
be happy in your life greetings from MAfia011

I'm actually looking at changing graphics cards out this coming monday... I get my check today. (09-20-2013\\\20-09-2013) The reason I'm looking to change is because my GTX 460 is starting to quit. It loses CUDA computability if I leave it to idle for too long. Any ideas as far as power headroom for SLI/CF?

Highly unlikely if the latest rumour has any truth to it, do you know how to say "re-badge"?

Eh, I dunno about re-badging with AMD's new cards, they've already done that with the OEM 8xxx cards and it's coming up to 2 years since the 7970, that's long enough to not rebadge really!

With naming conventions getting changed as well I just don't see the cards that really matter to us people being rebadged, seems like commercial suicide to do so after this long!

Rumours floating around suggest that there is only the one new GPU at the top end and all the rest are just reshuffled and renamed as everything gets moved down a couple of slots to make way for the new GPU that will still be on the 28nm node.
