Hello,

I am interested in the wifi bridge solution http://www.ccrane.com/antennas/wifi-antennas/wifi-bridge-kit.aspx#.UjwTdT9v82I. It conforms to unlicensed bands in America but is it true for the UK? Can someone point me to the direction of the official go0verning body.

If it is unlicensed i am sure there will be interference as the place i work is busy, but it is line of sight and i may take a chance considering it is not to pricey.

Cheers!

I couldn't link you to any governing bodies, but I do know that there are laws or restrictions in place to neuter the power of wifi signals. I remember reading up on BT's Business hub, the American version was very powerful and the signal could travel a really good distance, but being sold in the UK they had to come down to "personal" levels.

Something to do with us Britains being packed in like sardines! I know my new Virgin hub only just manages to get from the front (where the fiber socket is) of the house to the back yard, and I'm only in a mid-sized victorian terraced house.

*EDIT*

Just found a couples of things worth reading up on:

I tend to like the products from ubiquiti for doing this like their airgrid system. They are much cheaper than what the one you linked is. I am not sure on all their products but the vast majority meet all countries restrictions....I suspect because you can set the country codes. They have hard to read statements of compliance that I suppose if you know what you are looking for you can tell if it meets the laws.

Hello where did you buy your system from? and was it well documented? I was told by the source i supplied i would be well documented and although i only have a CCNA he said i would be able to set it up.

Cheers!

I buy most my stuff from a site called wlanparts.com They sell much more than just this brand but they are not the cheapest on everything. I have bought a number of things from them.

Depends what you mean documented. Ubiquiti has lots of stuff on their site on how to configure the devices they sell. You are running a bridge it is completely transparent to the network as far as the users can tell it is a ethernet cable that goes out one building and comes in another. The radio stuff is standard wireless stuff with encryption selection and channel selection.

The one feature on ubiquiti stuff I have never seen on anything else is they have a spectrum analyzer that lets you directly see interference which is much better than tools like inssider.
