Looking to get an SSD, what size is needed?

I just got a new gaming PC and couldn't afford an SSD at the time but I am able to now. I don't completely understand how it will work having both an SSD and a HDD. Will I be able to store certain programs on to the SSD and take them on and off and put new ones on? I am also wondering about the size I should get I will be installing the OS and a few games (which will change depending on the games which I am playing at the time). At the moment I am thinking a 120/128 GB SSD will be the way to go but I am not entirely sure.

No I haven't but as my computer is fairly new I will probably do a clean install anyway but how exactly does it work, if I install the OS onto the SSD will I then be able to choose which programs I have on the SSD and which are on the HDD?

Thanks for the help, will order my SSD today =) (Going to get the Samsung 840 Evo 120GB)
