Mobo is Inconsistent When Finding Boot Drive

Hi all,

I recently set up a gaming build on an ASROCK Z87 Extreme4. Everything's working great with the exception of booting into Windows 8.

The boot process is really inconsistent, sometimes it boots into Windows with no problem whatsoever and others it asks me to "insert boot media" or something to that effect.

I've verified within Asrock's GUI BIOS multiple times that the correct SSD is selected as the primary boot device. In fact, last time it failed to boot properly, I restarted, opened the boot menu and simply selected "default boot" and it booted correctly.

I initially messed with some settings in the boot menu, attempting to select "super fast boot" and was given an error message concerning my VBIOS not supporting it. Wasn't hugely concerned, so I selected "fast boot" and everything worked ok as far as I could tell.

So, what settings should I check? I've verified that the SSD and its SATA data and power ports are seated well.

Other specs:
i5 4670K
16 GB Sniper RAM
Kingston 120 HyperFX SSD
Toshiba 3TB HDD
Crossfire Sapphire Radeon HD 7950s
1000 watt PSU
Corsair H100i

Thanks!

Solution
Some thoughts...
- Ensure the latest BIOS version
- Ensure the latest mobo chipset drivers are installed
- Try a different SATA cable

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I have the exact same problem, however I am running Windows 7. Whenever the system is restarted it cannot find the boot drive. When I go into BIOS the correct boot drive is always selected. Please Help
