Laptop to TV - VGA to HDMI output is BLURRY!

Hi there,

Trying to hook a Dell Inspiron 1545 to my Samsung 32" LCD TV (LE32B450C4W).

I have a VGA to HDMI converter box but no matter what I do the resulting picture on the TV is blurred beyond belief. I have a feeling it could be the resolution, I hope it is not a faulty converter...

I have tried 1280 x 720 as the laptop screen resolution but the image is still unbearable. The max laptop screen res is 1366 x 768, if I could set it to 1920 x 1080 would that make any difference? I am using the 'duplicate' screens setting with regards to monitors 1 & 2 so laptop and TV are the same.

Or could it be something to do with the TV's firmware? It is about 4 years old it could do with an upgrade but I have absolutely no idea!

Very frustrating... Any help gratefully received!

Had to add this to the post, that TV looks to have a regular VGA input on it.
PC In (D-sub) 1

Why not just use that? No need for a converter, just get a VGA cable (you may have a few of them already) and use a regular 3.5mm male to male audio cable for the sound?


1280x720 should be right for this TV, the text will be fuzzy though, even with a DVI to HDMI direct cable. I have a 720p LCD monitor and the text is not the best, it's a bit broken up. Video looks pretty good though. If things are really annoying you, going to a 1080p monitor may help, but the issue may also be the converter you are using. The one I got was the Rosewill one, worked for me with my hardware and a Sharp Aquos older LCD (no PC inputs on it).

Hi, when I choose extend the tv goes blank and I get a "No Signal" message. I also tried to set screen 2 as the default screen which works (albeit still blurred), and it gave me the option of all resolutions including 1920 x 1080 however when I selected that the screen went blank and said "no signal"...

It is powered, not USB but by standard mains plug

Make sure the resolution you are trying to use is usable by the TV, find out what it's native resolution is. The Laptop resolution does not matter for this. Also make sure you set it to 60hz, although I ran a VGA to HDMI converter and had to set my TV to 59hz, but yours could be different.

Hi there, the TV resolution is actually 1366 x 768 as I've just found out. And the refresh rate is correct, 60hz. Technology was supposed to make life easier....!!
