User Profile Won't Load

I have a PC running Windows 7 64 Bit. I booted it up yesterday and it got to the stage where I have to choose a proifile (Mine or the KIds). I chose mine and it refused to load showing an error message that read - The User Profile Service failed the logon.

I had never seen this before so I googled it (after logging on with the kids profile).

I found a solution here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215 but I'm falling at the first hurdle in that I can't boot into Safe Mode?

I tried F8 during the boot screen etc and no joy. I then tried to Boot using my W7 installation disc (After changing the Boot option to CDROM in the BIOS) and thought that I would use the Sytem Recovery Tools but my PC just boots straight into Windows without giving me the usual installation pages and the option of 'Repair your PC'.

I can't change anything to do with the User Profile because obviously my kids profile doesn't have any admin rights and every time I do something that brings up the Admin password box for my profile I leave the password box blank and just press enter as I have never entered a password before. The box then disappears and nothing happens?

I'm at a bit of a loss to be honest and I really don't want to go through the hassle of a fresh install of my OS.

My PC knowledge is only average so if you could dumb down any solutions I would appreciate it.
Many thanks

F8 should get you to the menu, start hitting F8 right after you see the BIOS come up, keep pressing the key. You may be trying to hit F8 too late or too early. When the menu comes up, try "Last Known Good" boot option first, if that fails, go though those steps in Safe Mode.

Hang,

Many thanks for your reply. I have discovered the issue. In the BIOS there was an option for enabling / disabling a USB keyboard.
I only recently acquired a USB KB so it's always been disabled before. I switched it over and presto F8 worked.
Once I ran it in Safe Mode I completed a System Restore and it all works again!!
