Hello everyone, I currently have the money saved up now that I got paid today to buy myself a hard earned Nvidia 770 Of my choosing (I have $480 to blow) And I'm now wondering if I should wait till Wednesday of next week or not to see what ATI/AMD is going to be offering.

I've been holding onto this old 6850 from ATI for a long long time and its finally time to replace it but when I recently upgraded my drivers from the e-mail they sent out there was a little banner at the bottom with a teaser that said 9/25/13 so I'm assuming they are announcing their new line of GPUs.

I play world of warcraft mainly atm but I've always been a huge battlefield player but after getting so far in bf3 its just not enjoyable playing it on the lowest settings so with battlefield 4 coming very very soon I would love to invest wisely and get a single GPU card that will be able to run it on Ultra or very high settings when it comes out.

I'd imagine the new ATI cards will run around $500 somewhere but if you guys think the NVidia 770 will be optimal enough to run Bf4 with no problem at 1080p then I might as well not wait.

I'm currently running a I5-2500k Overlcocked to 4.4 Ghz (I was told that even though I only have pci-E gen 2 I should have the bandwidth for the card)

Asrock z77 Extreme 6 Mobo and some kind of G.Skill Ripjawsx Memory at 1866 Mhz and I have 16gb of it.

I also heard a rumor of how Bf4 will be optimized for the AMD/ATI Cards and also they will be giving away copies of bf4 with select cards which I would imagine would be their higher end models.

I'm not going to be playing the waiting game for ever if I do wait it will only be for the ATI cards and not for the 800 series from nvidia. Im getting this card before bf4 launches.

More about : buy nvidia 770 wait amd ati brings october

Get a 7970 now or wait. The 7970 is much cheaper than the 770 and pretty much just as fast.

Obvious answer, wait. Its only 5 days for goodness sake. Personally I would wait until October that way you should see some price adjustments from Nvidia if the AMD cards are good. I would also check reviews for BF3 tests when the AMD cards come out since BF4 is based off a tweaked version of the same engine it should be enough correlation to help you decide.

The RAM is faster on the 770 is it not and it runs slightly faster too I thought?

Most likely what I will be doing because if I order it today it wont get here till Wednesday anyway so there is no point in ordering until Monday but I would rather wait those two extra days I guess. By the time the new AMD cards come out I'll have another check so I could pretty much buy w/e card I want from them.

The RAM is faster, but on a narrower bus. The 7970 still has much more memory bandwidth than the 770.
As for the overall performance, they're close. With overclocking, the 7970 is usually going to be a little faster, but it varies from game to game.

Edit: Just checked. The 7970 GHz has the same memory bandwidth as the GTX 780 and Titan - 288 GB/s. The regular 7970 just a little less.

If you wait for the next best thing, you will wait forever.

But... since Sept 25 is around the corner, I think I would see what is being announced.
Remember that announce does not mean instant availability. If amd offers a new architecture, you can expect driver issues, at least for a while. You will be able to figure things out when you see what is offered.

I see no big reason for a major change to the price/performance curve.
At any given price point, the performance differences between amd and NVidia are minor. It takes a benchmark to tell the difference, and that does not usually measure the lagging characteristics.
If amd tries, you can be certain that NVidia will respond.

I also consider the games optimization favoring amd as just FUD.

I'll see what the announcement brings on Wednesday and will be looking to get the 7970s Bigger brother then if the wait isn't terribly long.

Thanks for the insight. Like Is said though I'm not waiting for ever I just want to make sure I get the best thing before battlefield 4 comes and and I'm almost positive they will be launching these new cards before the end of October when bf4 launches
