You need both for liquid cooling. The radiator is what allows heat to transfer from the liquid to air, and the fan is needed to move the air that is taking away the heat.
Corsair H series coolers are oft referred to as "faux liquid cooling".... they come with a pump radiator and fan....all are required for proper function. Many people wind up changing the fans because they are too noisy..... problem is the H80 is still not as quiet nor perform near as well thermally as the better sire coolers.
In essence, the ALC units have no "raisons d'etr" (Defintion: "justification for existence")
Grabbing one of the better air coolers (Phanteks PH-TC14-PE, Thermalright Silver Arrow or Noctua DH-14) will cost ya less money, give you better temps and be 1/4 as loud. If you want water cooling and are nervous about getting a full blow water cooling setups, Id suggest that you start w/ a Swiftech 220 or CM Eisberg 240L Prestige. These loops can be "opened up" later on to incorporate other components in the loop.
