I have windows 7 premium on a new pc. I have internet via wimax. I also use a Toshiba laptop via a netgear router. My old pc was on xp and worked my new pc is a present. When I try to connect the internet on the new pc there isn't an LAN icon in network connections. When I try to install the driver for the router I am told the Ethernet adapter is either disabled or not installed. I cannot detect windows servive pack or a Ethernet driver like realtek. Can anyone help

On the new pc from a USB stick run spacey from ccleaner people. It read your mb info.from there go to the mb vendor web page. If it an intel mb download and install intel chipset drivers. If amd go to amd and update the mb chipset drivers. From the mb web page download the network and sound chipset drivers. If the network drivers find nothing look to see if the port lights up when you plug a cabe in, if nothing happens check in the bios to see if someone turned the port off. If the port is set to on. Check for metal io shield to be shorting the port out and try another cable.

You don't install a driver for the router unless you mean the software for it. You only need to install the router software the first time you set it up. Service pack info would be in the properties of the computer, right-click on the Computer icon, select Properties. You can get the driver for the computer from the PC vendor support site.

How is the computer connected to the network? How is the WiMAX connection shared?

I installed the software for the router via my old pc and it is full working order. I am using it now to use my wireless laptop. The wimax receiver is on the roof, the wire from it has a plug on it as per a telephone. This plugs into a small adapter which also has the output adsl plug on it. This can either go into the netgear router or directly into the pc, when plugged directly into the back of the tower the light flashes but still the pc has no connection.

When I go to network connections there isn't anything.
When I go to devise manager under other devices there is the yellow exclamation symbol next to Ethernet controller.
Right click computer, properties states system CtrlSoft, model EIRR v10.12.27 what do I need to download from support site. There is no mention of any service pack.

Thanking you

The first part of the properties screen, above the computer properties, will list what version of Windows you have. If you just enabled default MS updates you will have SP1 installed already.

The connection to the internet should go though the router, you don't need any drivers for that connection as long as your network card is working. Hook up the WiMAX cable to the router (you must have had that setup before because you said your laptop worked through it), then hook up the PC to the router with an ethernet cable. Try a few ports if you don't have link lights, and try a different cable also.

Check device manager to see if there are any issues with the network adapter, you can get the drivers for the network card from the PC vendor support site. The router disks do not have anything to do with the computer at this point, they won't get the network card working if there is an issue with it.
