I feel like something is wrong and that my computer should boot faster. I've upgraded to a 128GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD and still having this issue. Takes around 40 + seconds from shutdown to windows password. Basically turn on computer, red screen welcome from the mobo pops up, then black screen with words, says can't find something and then red screen welcome from mobo again. During this time my fan shuts down, seems to almost double boot. Then things as normal and I'm ready to play. It's always done this, I've just been too lazy to post something yet. Any suggestions?

yank out the mismatched ram and set the remaining 8gbs to their factory timings. should improve everything about your system on the spot.

Most desktop cpus (and AMD in particular) really really hate mismatched ram. AMD cpus actually dislike 4 sticks of ram (and prefer 2 sticks) and tend to struggle stabilizing high overclocks with 4 sticks in them. that's not to say you can't make it work. just the cpu will make you really work at it to make it happen.
Make sure the mb has the newest bios on it. Turn on xmp profile in the bios if the mb can't set ram speed right on post it reboots till it can. In the bios set your Ssd as the first boot device and turn on fast boot/quick boot. My asus sabertooth with intel 520 Ssd takes 7 sec from power on to windows 8 desktop.

several questions.

1) do you have any RAID setups? if you use the MBs onboard RAID controller, that can slow down your loadup time
2) make sure fast boot is set in your bios
3) make sure your bios is updated
4) this type of problem can happen with undervolting your ram/nb, or having poor ram timings or a bad/unstable overclock. if the first 3 things i listed don't pan out we'll have to look at your advanced bios settings and have more detail about overclocks and type of ram..

Honestly, I just quit trying to OC for the moment. Needed to use it as a home office computer for a bit, so needed 100% stable so I don't lose data. I'll update the Bios, quickboot is on, I've got 4x4GB 1600 RAM, but its two different types of ram (one gskills the other corsair). And in Bios it has them set at 1333 which is ultimate crap. I guess I should check the timings for RAM.

I don't have any RAID setups. I guess updated BIOS is probably main culprit. Will try that first and foremost
