Hi I used SSD in my old laptop and windows 7 was installed in it. Now I have bought a new lenovo laptop with windows 8. I want to use my old SSD in it. When I replace SSD with HDD, it is not starting and saying no bootable media. Can you suggest me what is going on and what should I do?
Thanks

Solution
Try accessing the boot menu to select the SSD as the boot device. You can get this message when adding or subtracting drives, windows loses track of where to start from. Did one of your laptops have a optical disc drive and the other one didn't?

^ is right, you will probably have to reinstall.

I see this question over and over. NO! You can't just pull a hard drive or SSD out of a notebook and pop it in to another and expect it to work. The drive has the specific drivers for the motherboard loaded in to the O/S. You need to go into the bios and detect the new drive and be sure you can boot up on your optical drive do so and format the O/S partition and reinstall Windows. No you can't use the O/S from the old notebook either that is tied to the manufacturer. You'll have to get a new copy of Windows. Most likely the new model should support Windows 7 but you may want to check the FAQs regarding the O/S change. Windows 8 keeps some code on the motherboard ROM to increase boot speed.
