Hi everyone,
I wanted to know if a one-time use of MSI AB for video capturing gameplay (about 10 minutes) might permanently affect the operational definitions of Graphics Card\CPU\Fan speed etc? I mean, using only the video capture part of the program, not changing any other settings nor saving a profile? Will rebooting the computer and ensuring MSI AB doesn't load automatically on startupthe make hardware definitions and operations return back to normal? I'm new to this topic and will appreciate your advise! :)

yeah. MSI's afterburner only applys its changes on startup in windows. it's not a permanent change. furthermore if it crashes your system, it won't apply the changes on startup, when you load into windows, allowing you to fix the settings problems.

Thanks for replying, Jack and ingtar! My friend wanted to record some of his gameplay on NFS:Hot Pursuit and asked me to set up this program on his computer, running with ATI Radeon HD 6900 series graphics card. Following MSI AB's initial installation, we went ahead and recorded short segments of gameplay at 85% quality and 30 fps as set through AB. After rebooting the machine, we noticed a somewhat slower-than-usual startup, no MSI AB icon on systray. Just wanted to make sure there are no repercussions to this as it was only meant as a one-time endeavor. Can such operation cause damage to the hardware involved? I read somewhere that overclocking can affect components and I'd like to avoid long-term damage due to this one time gig.

P.S. Thanks for all your help, I appreciate it!

My friend's computer is a relatively new machine and not overly-crowded by software, but will mention CC cleaner just in case. It's running MSI Radeon Twin Frozr II and I was wondering what signs should I be looking for that might indicate GPU damage caused by the Overclocking procedure? Haven't noticed any flickering, lines etc on the screen after running MSI AB.

You have to almost try to damage something these days to actually accomplish it. Both CPUs and GPUs auto throttle to protect themselves. Pushing voltage above recommended limits long term (read years) can deteriorate components ....but we're talking really pushing it .... way way above what you're doing. I been running twin 560 Ti's at 25-30%* OC since almost the day they came out and the CPU at 2600 CPU in same box at 4.6 - 4.8 GHz*

* multiple profiles

Update: It seems like things are back to normal on my friend's system. No visible anomalies. I would like to thank you both, Jack and ingtar, for answering my question and providing much needed explanations! I hope other users who are baffled by MSI AB and Overclocking will find this thread as helpful as I have :)
