Please allow me to preface this by informing you all that I am a complete noob, where custom built computers are concerned. I likely won't understand some of the techy lingo, so please bare with me. Thank you in advance.

I have a PC with a MSI 970A-G45 mainboard. The OS is Windows 7. There is a Live Update 5 icon on my desktop. Upon opening this LU5, it appears this program is used to ensure at least some of the hardware/software stays up to date. However, I am scared to death that I will click the wrong button, likely causing a disaster which I'm not capable of fixing.

As you can see, I have taken a screenshot of the Live Update screen. I clicked the scan button, and these are the results. Because I use my own virus/spyware protection, I'm fairly certain I want no part of the Norton Internet Security. Other than that, I'm not sure what to do next, if anything.

Should I download any of these results? If so, which ones? When doing this now and/or in the future, are there precautions I should take, or is it as simple and doing the average Windows update?

Thank you in advance for any help you are able to provide.

This is a simple to use. I use it for my motherboard as well just select mb bios, mb driver, msi utility msi itility video genie, and safesync and press download after downloading they will all automatically install

I must disagree with this advice most strenuously! YOU SHOULD NEVER USE MSI's LIVE UPDATE TO UPDATE YOUR BIOS!! Many people have tried and many have bricked their MB with this method!

Download the BIOS update for your particular MB directly from MSI's website. Extract the update and place it on a flash drive. Start your computer and enter the BIOS. Select the "M-FLASH" option and click on it. When M-FLASH starts, point it to the BIOS update file on your flash drive. Instructions are self explanatory from there.

That's what I was afraid of. What about the other items that appear to need updating? Any issues with those?

As far as the BIOS, do they need to be updated now, or am I reading correctly that they are already installed?

On your BIOS, it says that you currently have "Version 1.00" installed and it is recommending "Version 1.B0" which is a BETA BIOS. I would not recommend a BETA BIOS except for very experienced users.

The USB 3.0 driver should be safe to D/L and install. I don't know about the others.

Experienced, I am not. I will leave the BIOS alone for now. I'll wait around for more input, before I decide to download anything.

Being the noob that I am, I'm having a difficult time understanding why they would
develop and release a product that isn't more user-friendly. "Hey! Use this product of ours. It's a lot like playing Russian Roulette."

I think that it is a situation in which the technology just doesn't match the marketing.

But don't take my word for it. Go to the MSI forum and ask for more opinions, if you'd like: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?board=54.0

Good luck!

I am taking your word for it. I am waiting for some opinions on the other items that were aren't certain of. I don't want to screw up something I can't fix.
