I am upgrading to an SSD and putting my OS and Programs on it.
I am also adding a 2TB hard drive to handle my data files and media files.
Both have SATA III (6GB/s) connections.

However, I only have one available 6GB/s connection on my motherboard and the rest are 3GB/s connections.

Which drive will offer the most benefits, if connected to the 6GB/s sata port?
Thanks

Solution
The SSD should definitely go into the SATA 6gb/s port. The HDD will be fine in the SATA 3gb/s port - it won't perform any differently. Make sure you have your BIOS set SATA Mode to "AHCI" mode NOT "IDE" mode.

Also - if you are doing a fresh install on the SSD it is best to keep the HDD unplugged. Once Windows is installed and is happy and good, then shutdown the machine and plug in the HDD. But don't forget that for your SSD to function properly, the setting in the BIOS usually called "SATA Mode" must be set to AHCI before you install Windows. Older machines are typically default set to "IDE" instead of "AHCI". Just make sure you check the setting.
