Hello guys, I'm just gonna make this quick and simple. I'm on low budget and i'm not willing to get something really heavy considering that i'm on low budget plus i'm really a "gamer"... I just wanna play some modern games such as GTA IV/V and such on low settings.

Here's my build, and please let me know what you think:

CPU: Intel Core™ i3 3240 3.4GHZ Dual Core
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 650 (Non-TI) 2GB GDDR5
PSU: 550 watts
Ram: 16GB (2x8GB) Kingston 1333mhz DDR3
Motherboard: Gigabyte H61M
Hard Drive: Western Digital 1TB Sata


That's about it guys, lemme know if you need to know any other component.

What is the brand and model of that "550W" PSU?
I would drop the RAM down to 8GB, and Windows Home Premium. The money saved will allow for a H77 or B75 motherboard, with modern interfaces like SATA 6Gb/s and USB3.0; and a stronger graphics card: GTX650 < GTX650Ti < HD7790 < GTX650Ti Boost

My thoughts

CPU: Good choice for gaming on a budget. Will outperform the AMD counterpart in its price range (FX-6300) by 5-10% in 70% of games and will get beaten by it by 15-20% in 30% of games. Depends on what games you're playing. You could consider getting the newer Haswell i3's. The one you listed is from a older generation though it's still good.

GPU: You'll get better bang for your buck going with an AMD GPU. A Radeon 7850 costs about the same, Go for that instead.

PSU: Brand is important. Some junk ones will fry your whole system. Get a Corsair, Seasonic or XFX PSU.

RAM: You don't need 16 GB for gaming. You won't see any difference at all between 8 and 16 GB. Save your money.

Motherboard: H61 motherboards don't have SATA 3. But this should only matter if you're going for a SSD later on. Some H61 motherboards do have USB 3.0 so if you're going H61 look for a board that supports that. If you want SATA 3 go for a H77 motherboard instead.

HDD: Yeah that's fine.

Thanks for your thoughts guys.

The brand of the hard drive i'm getting is some garbage one called Golden Tiger, I just realized it's a big mistake considering the brand is important so i'm switching to a SeaSonic 600W Active PFC 80+ or a Antec Basiq 650W Active PFC 12cm PSU VP650P because they're both nearly the same price.

Regarding the RAM: I'm not sure whether to stick with the 16GB or not yet but I assume it can be used in the future when heavy stuff are out perhaps?

About the GPU: It's the best I could find for my budget, plus the 7850 is more expensive than the GTX 650 here.

HDD: The brand I'm getting is called "Western Digital Caviar Blue WD10EZEX 1TB Sata III" and I have a "Gigabyte H61M-DS2 s1155 Core i3/i5/i7, Intel H61, DDR3 1333, 1xPCI-E, VGA" motherboard, it's also mentioned in the "Upgrades" options so I assume both can work together?

The Seasonic PSU is a MUCH better choice; "Golden Tiger" sounds like a 200W PSU-shaped object with a liar-label on it; a firecracker with an uncertain fuse.
The GTX650 is fairly weak. It will be good for a mix of mostly low and a few medium settings. The progression I listed will hopefully allow you to select a stronger one. Cutting back on the RAM should allow you to improve the graphics card. You could put 4GB in your system and still be able to play any game; 8GB will be sufficient for quite some time.

It's not like going from 8 GB to 16 GB will only increase your performance a little. It will increase it by absolutely 0. It's a waste to get more than 8 GB. If the 7850 is more expensive than the GTX 650, go for a 7790. Even the 7790 performs better.

I assume I should go with the 8GB of RAM but I'll consider upgrading when I have the money in the future. The GTX 650 is indeed weak, but I think it's really good for my budget. Besides, there's really nothing better than the GTX 650 at the local tech shop at this moment and to be honest, I'm planning to play every game on low settings.

About the PSU, I'm really laughing so hard right now for picking this thing called "Golden Tiger" earlier lol, it's just silly sometimes I pick weird parts and then wonder why did I pick such trash after. Thanks for the heads up, I'm indeed aiming to get the SeaSonic PSU instead.

You sound like someone who knows a lot, and I really rely on you guys when it comes to such decisions. I'm gonna go call the shop and ask if these GPU models are available and I'll come with an answer very shortly to see if it's possible to upgrade it.
