Hey all, first time using the forums here. I have a questing about installing a new cpu. How do I know if I installed the cpu properly? Because I replaced my old Athlon 7850 with a Phenom 965 and now my computer's acting really weird. After I installed the new CPU my windows Vista SP2 now looks like Windows 98. I can access the desktop but I cant click on "My Computer" or anything right now. Anyone know whats going on? Thanks in advance

it's an Asus M3A76-CM Mobo with Bios version 1104, I flashed my bios a couple days ago before the update. Well I went into my Bios and it reads the Phenom 965, temperature is at 40c. I think the problem may be PSU related since this same problem happened before when I flip the off switch on my psu and turn it back on. Right now my PC is acting all crazy, the clock is fast forwarding, if i type a single letter it types it multiple times, the windows loading sign is spazzing out and spinning super fast.

Last time i fixed this problem was when I shutdown and unplugged my pc for an hour or so. Turned it back on and it was no longer spazzing out. The thing I'm worried about now is that I cant seem to access My Computer or control panel even though I'm on the desktop, I can still access avast though. Sorry for the wall of text btw, I'm just trying to be as detailed as possible. But in general is this supposed to happen when you upgrade to a new cpu? Does your settings "reset"? Because right now my Windows Vista looks like Windows 98.

Well I just Blue Screen of Death'd twice lol. I booted in safe mode and now I can access "My Computer", I checked the properties and it showed AMD Phenom II X4 965. So I'm guessing it installed properly? The only issue I have now is my PC spazzing out. I'm gonna turnoff my pc and unplug it for an hour to see if that fixes it, its what fixed this issue last time.

I'm almost certain the problem is PSU related since it's about 5 years old now. Also I don't think its a virus seeings as that I never download anything on this PC and it was working flawlessly before I replaced the CPU. This same problem happened when I flipped the offswitch on my Psu to reinstall my graphics card. I'm not really tech savvy so Im gonna have to look up the CMOS think you mentioned on youtube. Also what will resetting the CMOS do? Also thanks for responding btw.

But now that the new Phenom 965 processor shows in the Bios and "My Computer" properties, that means its installed right? Also I'm gonna wait one more hour before I re-plug my pc and turn it on. I'm crossing my fingers right now hoping that will work since that's what fixed it last time.

Also when I installed the Cpu I had an option F1 to go into Bios or F2 to load default Bios settings settings and I chose F2, but I guess the CMOS thing you mentioned wouldn't hurt.
