pc recovery has crashed half way through??

my pc will not start up anymore and has this error every time I try using the recovery cd. error problems extracting process files windows\installer 52f13 msp
can I format using dos at start up and if so will my recovery disc then restore factory settings?
problem is I don't remember how to get the dos promt or the command to format?

my pc is an advent t9

I have access to a laptop

help would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest cleaning the CD first, using a fingertip of toothpaste and gently finishing off with a lint cloth - definitely NOT any wood-based toilet or kitchen paper. It may be enough to smooth the process through.

As to formatting, you would select the Partition to format and leave the recovery one in place but if you have a recovery CD, the recovery partition may be redundant. Are you invited to put a specific CD in the drive when you invoke the recovery process?

You can only access a Command Prompt if you have a working Windows system or a CD with access to the command line.

I have cleaned the disc as suggested the CD was unused and in immaculate condition but did it anyway, the recovery has worked, thankyu very much for your promt help.
