I've bought a brand new computer today. I brought it home and set it up but the monitor screen is completely blank. The only message I get is that it's in sleep mode. I took it straight back to the shop for them to test and it all worked perfectly. I've brought it back home, set it back up again and I'm back to the black screen. What on earth am I doing wrong?

That sleep mode thing on the monitor means it's not getting a signal at all from the computer, make sure you have the cables hooked up right and the monitor is set to the right input. If you tried different video ports on the PC if you have more than one. Trying a new video cable won't hurt.
Could also be your monitor, bring it to the shop with you next time if you can't get the PC working.

I was going to suggest the same - make sure it is in the correct port. If there is only one port, and you KNOW it's the right one, the cable you have is probably the culprit. They're pretty inexpensive cables. Good luck.
