There are many options:-
If you are a windows user,you can try Internet Connection Sharing(ICS).
Use switches
Use your wireless NICs,if you have them,to create an ad-hoc network.
It is really tough to tell without having an intel of both of the laptops and the internet connection;so provide them and then I will suggest more specific options.
