What to upgrade too

I could use some advice on which parts of my build to upgrade, specifically the processor but other suggestions like the gpu or motherboard will also be taken into consideration.
Gpu: Geforce GTX 550 Ti
CPU: AMD athlon ll x4 640
8gb ram
motherboard:ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+ AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

I would prefer small but significant upgrade options please and thank you :) ( am currently looking at the 4300 and 6300 fx series but can't really tell which would be better for gaming)

Made a quick edit, sorry i meant 550 ti, and i am looking for amd options and nvidia for the gpu,
for motherboards i prefer amd3 + compatible

I would start by upgrading your GPU to a 7870 and see how that feels. Your CPU will still hold you back a bit but you should notice a pretty decent jump in performance. If that doesn't get the job done, I would replace the CPU with an FX 6350.

Your GPU is the biggest holdup here but the CPU could use an upgrade too. What are you looking to spend?

Also, what are you trying to achieve? What games would you like to play and at what settings?

i'm, just looking for the "next step up" nothing too big just good enough to run games like battlefield at higher settings on a decent fps, and a combo of a gpu and cpu of around 200-300 unless i can just upgrade one and worry about the other later
