I am trying to build a desktop mostly for gaming and specifically flight simulators.I am planning to hook up this machine to 60" LCD TV in the basement. I don't do video editing and that kind of stuff but I do plan to use it to browse the net and listen to music or download and watch home videos. I ordered some of the components before I came across this site. Here is what I just ordered :
1. SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100352VXSR Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
2. ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
3. .CORSAIR CX750M 750W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready
4. Rosewill RNX-N600UBE Wireless Dual Band Adapter IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300+300Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2
5 COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler Compatible with Intel 1366/1155/775 and AMD FM1/FM2/AM3+
6. SAMSUNG DVD Burner 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM SATA Model SH-224DB/BEBE - OEM

I am planning to use SSD and at least 2 TB mechnical HD with the systen . Budget is not tight but I am not some one who has to have latest stuff. I just want to have good experience .

If you are building your computer what else you would add - especially CPU and RAM memory - to make it a decent desktop for the intended purpose?

I'd get an Intel i5-3570K (or i5-3570 if you don't plan to overclock, ever).

For RAM, two sticks of 4GB each. Corsair and G.Skill would be the best brands for the RAM.

For the SSD I'd go with a Samsung 840 EVO with 120GB. For the HDD I'd go with Seagate Barracuda 2TB or a Western Digital Blue with 2TB. If it's just for storage, you can get a Western Digital Green, which is built for low power consumption.
