This is what I have:

CPU- Athlon X2 AMD3 5200+, PSU- HX 750, Graphics- HFX GeForce 9600 GSO (758mb), MOBO- ASrock N68C-S, RAM- two KVR800D2K2/4GR (2GB each)

I thought about changing my CPU and MOBO, because they are really old and I have had issues with them before.
**I don't plan on spending more than $200 on a CPU.
Is a FX-6300 a good choice for me if I don't plan on changing my GPU any time soon, and if my PC is meant for gaming & school work/web browsing. I am not a big gamer yet, so I don't mind playing on lower settings for most games.
The games I have and will buy/download are Dead Space 3, Battlefield 3, Terraria, GhostRecon Online, Mabinogi, RPGmaker games, DayZ, Resident Evil 6, MineCraft, Gary's Mod, Far Cry 3, The Amazing Spiderman.

Its a good choice for an upgrade but to really change your desktop experience get yourself a SSD. 120gb or larger.

the FX 6300 is a HUGE step up from the athlon you have. however. there is a great low cost athlon x4 760k that would be a huge upgrade to the athlon and it only costs around 90.00. since you are not going to be upgrading your graphics card the athlon x4 will not be the weak point in your gaming experience (which some of those games may not even run on it).
