Hi!

I've made an account here at Tom's Hardware in the hope of getting help.
I just bought some new parts for my computer (motherboard, SSD, case and a copy of Windows 8). I installed everything and it went as good as it can go.

But when I was going to start the PC, things didn't turn out so well.

So when I start the computer, the Gigabyte G1.Sniper logo turns up on the screen. Below that there are some alternatives like;

"DEL BIOS SETUP\Q-FLASH", "F9 SYSTEM INFORMATION" and so on. When I'm trying to press delete to go into the BIOS nothing happens. Same thing with all the other alternatives. I've tried three different keyboards in all the USB ports and with a PS2 adapter. Nothing works. Someone told me, on a Swedish forum, to flash the BIOS to a newer version, but that's impossible without a working keyboard. I've reset the CMOS, nothing happens. After a while, the Gigabyte G1.Sniper logo screen disappears and a black screen comes up. Nothing happens.

Please help, I'm really frustrated.

Best regards,
Dalis

(Sorry for bad English, I'm from Sweden and not very old)

Yes, I have tried tappning the DEL key repeteadly as I always do. I don't have a DVD-drive installed (it ruins the look of the 350D) but sure, I will try that. When am I supposed to put the disk in? When the computer is turned on and stuck with the Gigabyte logo? One more question; what does POST mean? I have looked in the manual but I don't really understand what they mean.

POST: Power On Self Test
The way you describe it, it sounds like a bad MB. I was going to have you try the Win8 DVD to see if the PC BIOS would try to boot from the optical drive before going to the HDD. I presume you have no OS installed right now, correct?
Try breadboarding it as suggested above. Put the MB on an insulated surface with ONLY the CPU/stock heat sync/fan, 1 stick of memory in the first slot, monitor connected to on-board video, keyboard, and PSU. Momentarily short the two pins that the power switch would plug into to start. (or drag the case close enough to use the case's FP wiring) While the MB is out of the case, check to be sure you didn't add an extra standoff that is shorting the back of the MB.

See if you can boot to BIOS. If you have the same problem as before, I would say the MB is defective.

I'm sorry I forgot to answer.

When I do the power up self test, the CPU fan (hyper 212) and the PSU fan only spins for a short time, then it stops.

Edit: Uh-oh, stupid alert. Forgot to put the ram in. Now I can get into BIOS, what should I do next?

I forgot to put the RAM in when doing the POST :)

It's all fixed now. I flashed in the new BIOS version (F9) while doing the POST and then I tried to install all the memory and the GPU. I guess that the BIOS version wasn't compatible with my GPU, a GTX 760. :)
