I just loaded my PC today and seemed to have lost all my settings. Dell Vostro 220 with upgraded core2quad, 4gb ram, gtx 460, upgraded power supply, ect. My core2quad has a bsel overclock that has worked smoothly for a few months.

I loaded up and half of my desktop icons were missing. My background and start menu and start up programs are all gone. When I go through users/me/desktop I can still see everything is still there. However, when loaded HWmonitor, the only thing that comes up now is my video card.

in another hw monitoring utility called speccy, it is telling me its cannot initialize the DLL for the CPU, RAM, motherboard, graphics, and hard drives.

I'm on win 7 64 bit ultimate. restarted a few times to no avail.
any help is much appreciated.

Older pc check or replace your CMOS battery. Run malwarebytes and good anti virus sweep.

Now in HW monitor everything is back. Yet all my old settings still went default.

I ran malwarebytes and it came up with a few "potentially unwanted programs" but no virus.

how do i check cmos battery
