Getting a blue screen with Windows icon and nothing else.

Hi,
When I turn on my computer, I get a blue screen with the Windows icon and nothing else. I can't access task manager or any other function. I've tried to log in with Safe Mode with Networking and that doesn't load anything more than the Windows page either. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Sometimes, Safe Mode with Command Prompt works when other options fail. If you can get in that way, run the command
chkdsk c: /r
(where C:\ is your system Partition) then press Enter. That kickstarts Checkdisk which is a five stage process to find and fix hard disk errors. It's the first test to find out what's wrong with your system.
