How can I tell that my CPU is DEAD?

I had my self build pc running fine for about 1 week and now suddenly it wont start (power goes up for ~1sec and thats it). Ive done most of the regular cord checking, cant find anything physical. Is it strange that it will boot without 8pin power cord but not withit? Its obvious that nothing comes up to screen but at least it starts.
So I suggest that my problem is related to the cpu or what?
Asus sabertooth z87, Intel Core i7 4770K, G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 1600 Mhz 16 GB (2 x 8GB), Fractal Design Tesla R2 800W, NVIDIA GeForce GTX770.
Thanks in advance! :)

Hi

unless you have very expensive test equipment you can not conclude it is your CPU without a lot of testing

you need known working spare parts such a PSU to test by substitution

You then get down to motherboard or cpu and need a spare one of those two to finally say which one is the problem

what do you mean by 'boot' but nothing on the screen ?

If you have a Intel integrated graphics VGA / DVI connector remove GeForce GTX770

consider Toms diagnostics FAQ (sorry I cant find it for you)

consider bread boarding ( eg testing out side of case)
motherboard, cpu, ram (1 stick only), psu, screen, keyboard
(no hard disks, graphics cards etc)

PSU's seem to be the most common problems I have seen recently, followed by corrupt...

Thanks guys! :)

I think I'll get long way with these instructions!
by booting I meant that system power stays on without 8pin power cord but nothing else happens. and 8pin power cord plugged in it wont stay powered longer than ~1sec and it shutdowns.

I will tell if something tragic happens :D

I guess my cpu is broken again.. Im having those same symptoms.. it "broke" the same way it did last time I think. first time I left my computer on when I went outside and when I came back it didnt start . and today I just left it running again (just windows 8 desktop running) when I went elsewhere. after an hour I came back and it wont power up. Any ideas what could have done this? cpu temperatures were fine 25-35C on idle and 50-60C when gaming.

My psu has solid 8pinpowercord. My first case was solved with a new cpu after my components were ispected by my reseller. And this worked for me 2 days untill the cpu broke again. :( I did turn xpm profile on (I thought this would only effect the memory?

XMP shouldn't be a factor here.
Just wanted to confirm since according to the specs from Fractal Design and Newegg, http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/power-supplies/tesla/tesla-r2-800w and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817580011 it should have a 4+4 pin connector - try splitting the connector apart (they're made to do that) to ensure it is a 4+4 and not a 6+2.
If connected properly, it would seem to me that there is an issue with your motherboard's VRM, you should not be going through CPU's unless you're overclocking too greatly without proper cooling. Are you overclocking? What is your cooling for the CPU? You already mentioned gaming temps are fine but what about stressing (only if overclocked)

Yeah, my 8pin seems to be 4+4. I havent done any overlocking on my system and my cooler is "Antec KUHLER H2O 920 Liquid Cooling System"

Im getting really frustrated with this :D It wasnt enough that my car stopped working and now this.. maybe I should consider insurance fraud :DD

Just kidding!! I will just sent my components to my reseller and hope they got proper tools for this kind of job or something.

If its mb VRM problem I guess theres very little I can do?

And thank for all help so far! Peace!

My reseller changed the PSU of my computer because they suspect that it could be the main problem. And they also said that this wasnt the first case where the prosessor was destroyed by current PSU (Fractal design).
Hope this helps!
