Hi guys, I'm having problem with my external hd. It's a buffalo ministation 3.0 1TB and it was working perfectly fine. Until after a month it became undetectable. Whenever I plug it on my pc, the green light kept on blinking and it makes a clicking noise for a few seconds and then it stops but the green light stays on. My family pictures are there and also important documents. Ive been seeing a lot of things to do, but I really can't take the risk of loosing the datas saved.

Please help. Thanks!

Unfortunately, this is a pretty solid indication that the drive is on its last legs. As noted above, you are going to need to try a recovery program (recuva is probably the best out there) or take it to a professional (very expensive option).

At this point, I think your best alternative is to try recuva.

Clicking is not a good thing - typically it means the drive is going bad.

Before you do anything directly to the drive, I would suggest downloading a linux distro and running it from a usb drive. Oftentimes, the linux file manager will "see" info on a hard drive and provide you with an opportunity to pull off data/files.

The easiest way to do this is to go to pendrivelinux.com and use the program called "YUMI". This will create a bootable usb. Then get a distro of linux (mint cinnamon or unbuntu are easiest) and install it to the usb. Boot to the usb and you will be in linux - use the file manager and under "devices" see if your hdd appears.

markwp, i did what u told me but it cant detect the drive for my hd.

I did try it with other laptops with different os. It is still undetected. But when I go to control panel, the device manager can see it.
