I only built my first PC last year, so since then the only form of cooling I have experienced is air cooling. Later this year I was thinking about buying a second GPU and going for crossfire, but temperature is my main worry. I have a single XFX Radeon HD 7950 which runs about 40 degrees idol and 70 degrees when playing high spec games. However, I fear that having two of them running simultaneously will push temperatures above 80, and I think air cooling won't be sufficient.

The problem is, I have no idea how to buy a correct water cooling kit, or how to install it. Also, will water cooling take up too much room for me to have crossfire? The concept of using water cooling is only in the idea stage for me at the moment, so I just thought I'd leave this post.

Thanks

Might wanna start here:

WAter Blocks for GPUs have to be "fitted" to the PCB layout..... generally, WB's for "reference designs" are readily available..... factory overclocked boards using non standard PCBs require a WB specifically designed for that PCB.

Here's a WB for a reference 7950

Here's EK's cooling configurator
http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/

You'll need to insert your exact model number to see what's available

I chose the "Black Edition" as an example, this is ya available items: Bracket, 4 WB choices and a backplate

EK-VGA I/O bracket HD7970 [3831109856208]

EK-FC7950 [3831109856239]
EK-FC7950 - Acetal [3831109856246]
EK-FC7950 - EN (Nickel) [3831109856253]
EK-FC7950 - Acetal+EN (Nickel) [3831109856260]

EK-FC7950 Backplate - Black [3831109856277]

You could wait for the 8000 series but don't expect WBs to be available for any of the factory overclocked designs for quite some time.

Hmm, perhaps just buying a single GPU with more power is the better choice. At least that way I can use the money from selling my 7950 to buy an even better card. Do you know if the 8000 will be out by Christmas?
