Hi

I was wondering if someone could give me a pointer to the problem I'm experiencing with a desktop Packard Bell iMax computer.

My problem is: When I try to turn the Packard Bell computer on, the illuminated power switch and both fans (motherboard and internal case) briefly turn on for a split second, then the machine goes dead. No matter how many times I try, the results are always the same.

On one odd occasion while I was testing different things: The computer did boot to windows vista as normal and work fine, but it hasn't worked since.(couple of days ago)

I have tried a different power supply and a different power switch, disconnected everything (hd/dvd/graphics card) checked all that all the different power lead aren't 'shorting' the computer, yet the results are the same.

If I disconnect the CPU power lead: The motherboard fan continues to run but nothing else happens.

All the caps look good also.

Thanks.

check your ram, if you have two sticks, remove one and test it. If it doesnt work replace stick A with stick B and test. If that fails to work remove Stick B and place it in the other slot and repeat with stick A to test to see if ti works.

Hi

thank you for posting.

I've now tried swapping and replacing memory sticks as described and the fault is still the same. I've tried working memory from another computer also. My gut instinct is the power supply but I've already tried that with a known working supply.

My wife told me that: the computer had been temperamental over the last year or so (she only mentioned this once I noticed the computer wasn't working). def a strange one (

Thanks
