Sony Vaio has never worked properly since bringing it over to the UK

First time posting here, so I apologise in advance if this is in the wrong forum or anything.

My dads boss was in America a while ago and bought a Sony Vaio to do his work on over there, everything worked for what he needed. However, when he brought it back over to the UK he couldn't ever get the internet to connect and gave up on it, passing it on to my dad. Now we've had it a while, never really bothered with it - until recently.

My brother wiped it and put Windows XP on it and that seemed to do the trick to get the internet working on it, however we've never found any luck of getting any USB ports working since we've wiped it. When plugging them in, nothing happens at all. Nothing in my computer, no error comes up saying it isn't recognized, it just simply doesn't think it's there.

Not sure what model it is, just under the screen there is a small set of digits "VGN-C140G" and on the back it's PCG-6P2L.

Another thing I have just been told about is the disk drive doesn't work either, you can put stuff in but it doesn't recognize it.

We're now assuming that is just isn't going to work whatever we do, but this was worth a last ditch attempt to try and fix it.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide, it will be greatly appreciated.

The ones that I could find, know of anything I could use to check?

Going into device manager shows all USB ports with yellow errors on them
