Broken PSU or GPU (or something else)?

Hello everyone :)

I'm having a problem with my custom built computer.
___________________________________________________________________

Specs:
XFX 850W Pro XXX 80+ Bronze PSU
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 Motherboard
AMD 6100-FX 3.3GHz CPU
XFX Radeon 7850 (Crossfired with another XFX Radeon 7850) Graphics Cards
Hitachi 7200 RPM 1TB Harddrive
Corsair 600t Chassis
Noctua NH D-14
Samsung SyncMaster SA300 Monitor
___________________________________________________________________

When I start my computer I get to see what's on-screen for about 5 seconds before my screen goes into stand-by mode. I thought it might be a problem with my screen or DVI port on my graphics card so I tried to use the HDMI port on my TV, but after 5 seconds it says that there is no signal. No matter how many times I try I can't seem to get any other outcome.

This started after my screen froze while playing Metro 2033.

I've been searching for one whole day, but haven't found anyone with the same problem.

Please help! I use my computer for school a lot and I don't have Word on my laptop.

You have tried both GPUs by themselves?

Were you overclocking?

Try clearing CMOS. Either with the motherboard jumper or by removing the motherboard battery for 10 minutes.

Do you have another monitor you can try? Almost sounds like the monitor is having problems.

Edit: When trying the cards individually make sure you try them in both PCI-E slots. Could have a dead slot on the motherboard.

First off, while you're fixing everything you can try using google docs on your laptop as a replacement.

Did your computer shut down when playing metro or just freeze? It does sound like a GPU problem. I had something similar happen to my laptop. If you have integrated video on your cpu then try plugging the dvi cable into that instead of into the GPU and go into bios and see if all the components in your pc are being recognized. If you can't do that, try either plugging the gpu into another pci slot on your motherboard and see if that helps or trying another gpu. Before any of that though I think you should see if the gpu fans are spinning when you start your computer and if they stop at any point in those 5 seconds.

Thanks for the google docs tip :)

There's no integrated video on my CPU nor a port on my motherboard.
Luckily I can tell you that my computer shut completely down in Metro 2033 after it had frozen and the screen gone black there two or three times.

I were overclocking both the card, however not significantly.

I tried my computer at my TV using the HDMI port on my card. I will try another PCI-E slot and post the result tomorrow, but I'm feeling drowsy and need a good night of sleep to clear my head.

Edit: I decided to do a last check before going to bed and it seems to be a dead PCI-E slot (the one with my main card in). Luckily I have another one I can use so I can keep running two cards. Thank you, Anort. You saved my life :)

Glad I could help! :)

Hopefully the board is still under warranty and you can get it replaced.

That sounds like something on your PC overheated. How long did it take your computer to turn back on afterwards? Also if you're seeing an image for the first 5 seconds then the gpu must be working. Try borrowing a psu from somebody and testing it out if you can.

Reading the entire thread before you post makes you look more intelligent :vip: Especially when it's a solved thread.

It's only been a year so I'll send it back tomorrow. Again thank you so much!
