I'm stuck between 2 builds I made. One has a AMD 7950 but I got a cheaper motherboard and PSU. the other has a 7870 and a more expensive motherboard and PSU.

Which one is better for gaming at 1600x900?

7870:

Any help would be appreciated.

Actually the 7950 is only 9% faster than the 7870. The main difference is the bigger bus width (256-bit to 384-bit) and the bigger VRAM (2GB to 3GB). Although, I believe that the bigger VRAM will only make a difference on multiple monitors. However, I would still suggest the one with a 7950 for the purposes of bragging rights. It's cool to tell your friends that you have a "7900" series card.

As my only friend that is a PC gamer is a Nvidia fanboy showing off with a 7950 will sure annoy him.

So the cheaper parts in the 7950 build will serve me well for the next 2-3 years?

Not doing any extreme overclocking but if any it will be very slight 200-300mhz as a max on the cpu but I will be bumping the GPU to at least 950mhz but 1000 if the temps are under 75-80.

Either will be a fine gaming system, particularly at such a 'low' resolution.
Either build will cope with a 1080 monitor if you need/choose to upgrade later.
I'd go for the 7950: Most of 'em overclock like mad things, it has more memory, it's within your budget, (nice balancing act BTW-you Capricorn?) and the game bundle is better :).
I have one on a...er...'mature' i5 750 and there's nothing it can't play smoothly at high/ultra settings@1080 res.
One other point, the CPU is a little weak for the either card at 1600x900 res. Don't let that bother you, the CPU can be upgraded later if need be but you'll still be using the same card, (probably on a 1080 monitor).

Was going to get an i5 but then couldn't put as good a gpu in so I thought why not go down a full AMD route then for my next build an Intel/Nvidia one because it will probably be in the £600 price range. So I'll put in the equivalent of an i5-3470 and the the equivalent of a GTX 760.

I'm was going to get a 1080p monitor sometime next year hopefully.

Oh and I'm actually a scorpio.
