Alternative to Memeo Backup

Hello,

I'm brand new to this forum.

I currently use a version of Memeo Backup that I've had for several years. I find that the constant, real-time, unencrypted backup (allowing for multiple versions), makes finding files a breeze and it's nice to know that the files are immediately backed up upon loading them in my system (many are image files). This software appears buggy and locks up my system periodically with certain software applications.

My question is, Is there anyone, low overhead, software package that uses this same method? In researching different packages, it's unclear to me if they will fulfill my needs. I don't want a total and incremental backup, I'd like one that continually monitors and backs up files that can then be searched on, say, Windows Explorer without having to use a backup software to unencrypt. Any suggestions?

Thanks Dereck47 for your response. In looking at the chart, I see "Full, differential, incremental" type backups with a lot of features. But will any of these do what Memeo does? A real-time, almost instantaneous backup. Maybe I'm unclear as to what this particular type of backup is called and it's noted right in front of me. I'm not looking for a "scheduled" style backup.

The feature you’re looking for is “Scheduling”.

The #1 software on the list (NovaBACKUP) has scheduling that you can set as low as 1 minute. That’s not real-time, but it’s close. You can go to the website of each of the other programs and see if they have real-time scheduling.

When I bought an external drive from Western Digital about 5 years ago it came with backup software called WD AnyWhere Backup, which had real-time scheduling like Memeo Backup. When I upgraded my O/S to Windows 8 last year the program was not compatible. So I feel your pain about not having real-time backup. :)

I had the option to purchase an updated software from WD but I refused to spend the money. So I now use FreeFileSync to backup all of my files. I use it manually backup my files.

Your correct. WD's Anywhere Backup IS Memeo Backup. That's where I original obtained it...I found out that they were the same which is how I have Memeo now. I didn't know that scheduling could be in 1 min increments.

I will look into this. Any other suggestions besides Nova...I just found SyncToy 2.1 from MS. Which appears to be very close without a lot of overhead.

Yes, I saw this too. That was also a concern although there are still threads dating to 5/2013. So it's still being discussed and recommended. I'm just getting tired of Memeo. It's been working pretty well (albeit glitchy) until the week. Now it work start without an error message. I think it's time to change software but I think the function of Memeo and have been looking for a similar replacement.

Can you tell me...

I backup my main drive to a 2tb ext.. I also have a "Media Drive" with 2tbs that I backup to a USB 3.0 HDD Dock which I rotate 2-3 drives out of and keep copies in different locals. Will SyncToy allow for different backup (or syncing) plans to different drives?

Well, I tried Filesync and SyncToy and while they appear to be easy, lean programs, I noticed that they don't load and monitor continually...unless I haven't understood the docs. You have to "run" by manually starting them. I was hoping for something that loaded on startup and monitored constantly without my interaction.

I guess I'll continue to look.

Actually, not opposed to paying. Just looking for a simple version of Memeo/Anywhere backup style program without the bugs (in looking around for reviews of Memeo, no one appears to have a good recommendation of it).

Any other ideas? I just don't want a bloated software package. It doesn't have to be slimed down too much but I used to use Norton products 10 years ago until I realized I had to buy larger and faster computers just to handle that bloatware. :)

Did you get it working and if so what was the trick? I am also looking for an alternative to Memeo and this would be a good option if you got it going and are pleased with it?

I used their "Realsync" program that comes with the filesync. Not a perfect solution but it does the trick and doesn't log my computer up. Low overhead and runs in the background.
