I am using a Razer Tiamat 7.1 headset and a Gigabyte motherboard. It has been working good for over 2 years. Today when I got on skype, the mic wasn't working. I checked Realtek driver and it was showing up. When I bend/move the cord a bit, i hear crackling and the mic works again for a few seconds.

This has nothing to do with the headset because I just used it on my laptop and it works fine. I updated my motherboard audio drivers and it is still happening. Any ideas?

I think that I would still try a different mic or headset just to be certain. Barring that, you can use literally any sound card that you can find. Hell, I still have a Sabrent PCI sound card lying around that I got from TigerDirect for about $13 6 years ago that would still work perfectly and deliver 8.1 audio. Sound cards are a dime a dozen these days because they're only really used when the on-board sound fails.
