Unsupported CPU Installed

Wondering if anyone else experienced this problem?

Had a spare HP a4313w and decided to upgrade it. HP website said it supports AMD Phenom x4 up to 95w. So I purchased an phenom 9750.

When I boot I receive an unsupported CPU error message and computer shuts down. Occasionally on restart I can access boot menu and it will boot into windows 7, which does seem to recognize the processor.

After reading many posts here, I checked HPs website looking for bios update, but no luck.

Any suggestions? If I'm outta luck what is the fasted processor someone has successfully installed on an a4313w

The Phenom 9750 is a 125w TDP CPU, not the 95w TDP CPU that the motherboard requires. Also, that motherboard will only work with AM2+ CPUs.

A Phenom 9650 is your best bet if you can find one (it is a 95w TDP CPU).

According to AMD's website the 9750 I purchased is a 95w model (HD9750WCJ4BGH):

Yes, I compared the serial to AMDs website it is the 95w model.

I'll replace the original CPU so that I can verify the bios version. I'll reply back shortly. Thank you for your responses.

According to Windows 7 System Information my BIOS Version is 5.55. However, when I use the HP Software and Drivers Support it does not list a BIOS update. Do you know where I can find update 6.10?

Do you know where I can find the BIOS upgrade? HP website, and the link you provided earlier in this thread do not include a BIOS upgrade.

So, there are actually 4 different (at a minimum) M2N68-LA motherboards used in various HP systems. I believe that this one uses a Narra5 version.

That being said, and researching some HP forums, it appears that only another 5.X BIOS version can be used on this model. Digging around quite a bit, I have been unable to find a newer 5.X version than the current 5.55 that Simnaj is using (I have found version 5.49 only).

LOL, that is just what I was going to try to do. :lol:

Well, it did not work. However, I did find that hitting F2 would bring up a Boot Menu that allows me to boot into Windows. However, it completely bi-passes the Bios, so I cannot access any Bios settings. Windows 7 does recognize the processor.
