Frames Per Second....ridiculous

I play quite a few games, and in a lot of them, my frames just go kaploohey. It's still playable, but it's at 15-20 at most times, and still has random crazy drops. Honestly, I'm not sure what it is.....and it only happens in some games, Minecraft and Black Ops, League of Legends is alright.

Oddly enough, I get more FPS problems in Single Player (minecraft) than in multiplayer, which makes no sense what so ever. I don't understand the problem, and I really need help. I'd also like to say, when I'm recording my gameplay, it doesn't actually affect the FPS at all, which is pretty weired, doesn't drop it down any more, same old same old....I'd also like to say, my framerate doesn't drop when rendering videos, playing music, Skype, etc. Some mods do cause minecraft a bit of spikes, but I guess that's normal.

It can't be my Video Card OR Driver, because all that's perfect, I know for a fact.
I'm not sure what information you need, just request it, I'm not going anywhere :)

Please

Thanks in advance! :D

How long have you had the card? Anything new?

Post system specs please.

I forgot that, StarCraft II didn't lag much (except when I controlled a crazy amount of units).

Processor: Intel 2nd Gen Core i5 i5-2450M / 2.5 GHz ( 3.1 GHz ) ( Dual-Core )
RAM : 4.0 GB
Hard Drive: 497.0 GB - Serial ATA-300 - 5400.0 rpm
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Edition
Display Type: 14.0 in TFT active matrix
Max Resolution: 1366 x 768 ( HD )
Graphics Processor: Intel HD Graphics 3000 Dynamic Video Memory Technology
Optical Drive: DVD-Writer

My video card is up to date, and I'm sure it's not the problem. I haven't done anything different, but I have had this problem since the beginning of playing Minecraft. StarCraft II runs perfectly fine! So do many other 'new-ish' games.

Let me also say, ALL the Call of Duty's Lag. It's ridiculous, really ridiculous. Although, mw2 got it's act together when I changed the resolution.

you're using integrated graphics. have you checked temps while playing? some are known to throttle when reaching critical temps and could cause massive framerate drops.

also, it shares video memory with yyour system memory, it could also be that it's just accessing the HDD due to less RAM available. and yeah, your HDD seems kinda slow.

Firstly what is a temp (if you mean temperature..)? Secondly, how would I check it (if it isn't temperature)? Thirdly, let's say it is the latter, what would I need to do? I'm sure it's an upgrade, but what exactly would I upgrade (as in RAM, etc)?

Thanks for all the help!

If you list your motherboard, A discrete video graphics card can help.

Are you suggesting a graphics card update?

No, a new part to plug into your motherboard so you can play games.

Could you elaborate? I'm not sure what that means, and how much would it help me?

Also, how sure are you that this is the problem?

I'm asking quite a bit, sorry.

Gpuz should tell you speeds, temps (yes temperature), load, and vram usage. And check ram and cpu usage in task manager. It's got to be one of those that's the issue.

Alright, there's no chance my graphics is the problem?

Secondly, thank you for the help, I'll be sure to update this thread, although the computer is not with me at the moment and I'll be getting it back this coming weekend.

Now, let's say one of those is the problem, is there a 100% chance this can be sorted?

the thing is your laptop isn't really designed as a gaming machine. it could probably play those games but it's not really good at doing it. if it's alright with you, you should play them only at the lowest detail settings just to keep the framerates fluid.

you cannot replace/upgrade your videocard. the only thing i can personally suggest is that you keep the laptop cool, and to upgrade the slow HDD to something faster. it would provide minimum increase in games but i'm afraid that's the 'best' solution for you. cheers!

I'm not sure why you pmed me when you can just post in the thread. It should be obvious what the issue is once you see all the info.

Apologies, well then, it's time to start this thread back up. Is blackrose 100% correct? Because, I'd love it, if there was an alternative. Is the CPU usage + temp, etc a possibility anymore? I'd simply like to hold off until I get a new Computer (Next Summer). Plz Reply.

I'm sorry for PMing you, I just thought, most forums dislike starting up mostly dead threads.

You can compare your fps with others. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-3000.379... A post is not dead til the issue is resolved.

This was quite helpful....I actually only have two of the games on that site, and it isn't much to go off of.
I'm sorry for sticking to this idea, but it's really the only hope I have (I'd assume). What you said earlier about the tempreture and other CPU usage.

If you aren't getting similar performance then of course there's an issue.
