Well, even though I've never built a custom computer, a friend asked me if I'd help him pick out some parts. I've never built a custom computer before, but I've done a bit of research. I think what he was looking for was something that he could use for gaming that was under 500 bucks. He says he wants to use it to record Minecraft videos.

So, here's the rig: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1GDg3

So pretty much what I'm looking for is that I'm not making a bunch of huge mistakes, there's no bottle necking, and most importantly, that it works. From what I read, I should be staying away from AMD, but it was the best deal I could find. Also, what are your thoughts on downgrading to a 1GB video card, and upping the RAM a bit?

Thanks for any help I can get!

Btw, if you'd like to continue helping a guy out, I have quite a few questions.
- What do I need to know about picking out a case? Will pretty much any case do the job?
- Anything I need to know about memory speeds?

Solution
The build looks ok, if he is just doing MC videos.
As for picking a case, unless you want it to look cool, LEDs and a window aren't needed. Just make sure that your case supports the MoBo type(ATX, EATX, MicroATX. etc)

As for memmory speeds, 1600-1800 is a good speed. 9-11 is a good latency.

Upgrade the gpu if possible.

Good build, it will slow down in modern games though..... Try getting Dual Channel Memory though. It helps a bunch with other stuff such as rendering etc.
The stock cooler will do fine for everything except overclocking. If your overclocking keep the cooler, if not use the stock one.

Ok, thanks for the info. What would you suggest for the GPU?

Edit: I've updated the parts list with a new CPU and a motherboard with Dual Channel Memory. I've also taken out the video card for now. Thoughts? Again, here's the link http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1GVfT
