Hello

I'm having a problem where my ASUS motherboard is showing a red light on the CPU LED. I've had my system for over a year and have had no problems out of it.

The problem started after powering off my system and rebooting. The system powered on and the fans spin up but the CPU LED showed red. I had attempted to clear the CMOS and powered the system on and off multiple times but the LED stayed on. Eventually after letting it sit for about an hour, the computer powered on and started working without any problems.

I had to shut my PC down again later on and when turning it back, once again, the red CPU LED lit up. I waited another hour and it powered back on and started working again with no problems.

Tonight, I decided to play a game and once it started, the PC powered off and the red CPU LED came on.

So with all of that, does it seem like I have a problem with the CPU, the motherboard or the power supply?

I don't understand how the system runs fine but if it's powered off, it fails the CPU check. My CPU temperatures are fine and nothing has changed inside the system itself.

I have a brand name and good quality power supply. Is it possible the PSU is faulty and isn't supplying about voltage to the CPU for it to pass the system check when the system is started? Or would it be the motherboard possibly failing to check the CPU properly?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

People have had similar issues due to incorrectly mounted heat sinks and not having their cables connected all the way, if you are using a haswell processor, make sure your power supply is verified as being haswell ready

Hi there!

Would you kindly let us know what your system is?
Sounds like a power supply problem to me... possible one of your rails isn't work correctly, what size PSU do you have, what brand?
How many GPUs? What CPU?

If you can, turn the computer on, and do some stress testing and keep an eye on the temps... maybe its overheating so the CPU is shutting itself off to protect itself...

If you would kindly answer these questions Id be happy to help :)
