CD/DvD ROM doesn't show in my computer.

I've got a Toshiba TE2300 and have recently fresh installed Windows XP Service Pack 3. Everything was working fine for the first few days but now my CD/DvD ROM doesn't show in my computer. I go to the device manager and it is listed there but with the yellow exclamation sign (!) next to it. Tried troubleshooting and it suggested that I uninstall than reinstall it again. When I do that, the problem installing hardware message comes and says that the device might not work properly. I tried updating the drivers using the net but it says I've got the lastest drivers. So now I don't know what to do. That's as far as my computer knowlegde goes, any help from anyone will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  1. be sure you are loading the latest drivers for windows XP and not Win vista or 7. Does the CD/DVD drive show when you open my computer?

No, it does not show in my computer. It only shows in device manager with the yellow exclamation mark next to it. I do not think it is a hardware problem because it shows up in the safely remove hardware window.
