So first of all, let me list my parts. (and apologize for my illiteracy in advanced)
asus m5a78l-m usb3
fx-6300
hd 7770
So, I was using my pc fine until my HD TV stopped working. Luckily I have an old LCD monitor from my old PC. but.. the monitor only has DVI or VGA, no HDMI like I was using with my TV. The HD 7770 doesn't have VGA either. So I decided to just take it out and use onboard graphics until I can get a DVI cable. So I took my GPU out, and hooked up the VGA cable to my motherboard and monitor. When I turned my pc on, it just turns off as fast as it comes on. Why is it it doing this? Am I missing something?

First, the DVI port on the HD 7770 with the extra 4 holes is a DVI-I (integrated) port. With the adapter that should have come with the card, that port will produce an analog (VGA) display. http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-Cable-Adapter-DVIVGAMF/dp/B000067SOH But if the monitor has DVI input, just use a DVI cable and you are good to go. No need to go with the old analog VGA.

As to your monitor not displaying, is it set to receive a VGA signal? Or is it switched to DVI?
