This is my third try...
So, I would like to record with FRAPS but have a terrible HDD that drops 60FPS to 5-10.

That being said, should I get a new HDD and record on that or get a new SSD and record on that? I'm looking to record 60FPS 1080p.
PLEASE!!! Answer only if you know what you are talking about (No disrespect), but no two people have given the same answer.

If you have frame rate issues, what i really recommend is another program apart from fraps.
Like dxtory.
The SSD would help definitly. Keep in mind that fraps saves videos at stupid big file sizes. 1g per min or so. You would fill the SSD quite fast if you chose the pathing to that.
You can however (this is what i do). I have a standard 1tb 7200 HDD (WD i think) and my fraps pathing is to that. But the games i record are installed on the SSD, i record 60fps no issues.

But i also have.
fx8350
gtx 650ti boost
16gb ram

The frame drop issue is a problem with fraps, if you dont have a medium gpu cpu, it is normal for the large frame rate droping.

i7-920 @ 3.2GHz
GTX 660 Ti
6GB RAM

OK, Thanks! And one quick question, is 7200RPM kind of like an SSD's read/write speed?

With Fraps, it doesn't matter what hard drive you use, never record to your OS drive. Same with any recording software!

Use and external hard drive and record to that, if that still loses a bit of FPS (expected), remove unnecessary files and programs. If that STILL doesn't work, format your hard drive or buy an SSD or faster RPM hard drive.

7200 is the standard for any drive, and SSD has 10 times the write speed of an HDD.
Using an example, encoding movies or rendring in sony vegas is 5x faster in a SSD, than HDD.

The guy above me also has a point to never record to the OS drive.
Having an SSD for OS and games you want to record, and save the fraps pathing to the HDD would be the best choice.
