Internet Speeds Slow Down Until I Restart the Router

I think the title sums it up pretty well. Basically, I have a 25/5 mbps up/down speeds as advertised from my ISP (Cox). After plugging in my router, I achieve the advertised speeds. However, after a few hours, the router gradually slows down until it eventually bottoms out around 9/3 mbps up/down speeds. If I go and reboot my router (whether through unplugging the power source or through the router's reboot function on the configuration interface), the speeds will return to normal for a few hours and then fall back down again. Note that I've had times after the download speed dropped where the router configuration (reached by going to 192.168.0.1) page is unreachable, meaning it just hangs at connecting to it. At those times, my ping in games like League of Legends always skyrockets. Once again, a router reboot fixes those problems. This leads me to believe that it's a problem with the router somehow, but I want some other opinions on this. A few things to note:

  • ■The router has about as good of airflow as possible without putting it on a stand and/or blowing a fan at it.
■I am using a wired connection. I have not yet been able to try directly connecting to the modem because it would cut off internet access for my roommate for too long.

Router: D-Link DIR-655 Hardware Revision B1 with the Latest Firmware
Modem: Motorola Surfboard SB6121
ISP: Cox Communications

I think I figured it out. I disabled traffic shaping + QoS control and it seems to be fixed. I saw someone else mention that it might be overworking the router and they seemed to be right. Hope this will help someone else out in the future.
