I have Windows 8 Pro installed on my rig and it is consuming extremely high amount of RAM like 80-85% plus most of the time and 90% + while gaming.

WHILE GAMING

Here are the Specs:
Intel i5-3570k
8GB G.Skill RipJaws RAM
ATI/AMD 7970HD 3GB ASUS DCII GPU
2TB HDD

What could be the reasons behind it? I have had BitDefender installed and I even uninstalled that. With BitDefender installed idle usage is 85-87%.

Solution
The reason is a very effective memory management that uses all the available ram. If you like to slow your rig down significantly, you can limit the available ram with winconfig. Windows will sue the pagefile instead. But back to the main question: why the hell would you like to see large amount of ram unused? Why did you even buy 8GB, if you don't want to use it?

If that's the case then I won't change anything. If this much RAM usage is normal and helps speeding my rig, then its good. I was thinking that its only me who's facing this problem.
Thanks so much guys.
One more thing please, If I leave system idle for like 30-35 minutes with only browser (firefox) open the system just hangs. Though I am able to move cursor, switch on/off keyboard indication lights etc, but just nothing works on system. Happens too many times.

I have chrome installed but I don't use it much. I just use Firefox. And it happens just so many times. Also I see many a times some random pixels on Firefox like near top title bar or bookmarks bar, and on most of the sites while browsing, which go away once I minimize and restore the Firefox. And yes I am using the latest Firefox.
